One of the most intense sports events is set to go full throttle this November at the Gold Coast Convention Centre near our cheap Broadbeach Apartments. The Evolution 22 Muay Thai competition gathers the best-trained nak muays for a show of elite martial arts skills and sportsmanship.
Muay Thai is a kickboxing style from Thailand. The word muay comes from the Sanskrit mavya and Thai is derived from the Tai. The martial art is referred to as the “art of eight limbs” as it makes use of the two fists, two elbows, two shinbones, and two knees to punch, elbow, kick, or hit an opponent with a knee strike. A nak muay is a practitioner of the art of eight limbs.
Over the years, several Aussie nak muays have earned accolades in this sport, and one of them is set to fight in the main event of Evolution 22. Fighting out of Five Rings Dojo in the Gold Coast, Nathan “Carnage” Corbett is the top-ranked contender in the WBC Muay Thai super-cruiserweight division and the WKN Muay Thai Heavyweight Champion. He is best known for knocking out the legendary Scott Banan and reigning cruiserweight champion Tyronne Spong. The fight against Spong ended in a controversial “no contest” decision as Corbett resumed fighting even after the referee had stopped the bout.
